What are the types of highway speedometers
There are three main types of highway speedometers: laser speedometer, radar speedometer, and camera speedometer.
1、 Laser velocimeter
Laser speedometer is currently the most widely used highway speedometer, which measures the speed of passing vehicles through the principle of laser ranging. When the laser beam is irradiated onto the vehicle, the reflected light signal will be received by the laser speedometer and converted into vehicle distance information. By calculating the distance traveled by the vehicle between two sampling time intervals, the speed of the vehicle can be obtained. Laser velocimeter has the advantages of high accuracy and wide measurement range, but it also has problems such as susceptibility to interference and short measurement distance.
2、 Radar speedometer
Radar speedometer measures the speed of vehicles through electromagnetic waves, and it has the advantages of a wide speed measurement range and is not affected by weather interference. When the radar speedometer is working, it emits a high-frequency electromagnetic wave. When the wave encounters a vehicle, it will be reflected, and the instrument will analyze the reflected wave and calculate the speed of the vehicle. However, it should be noted that radar speedometers also have problems such as large errors and low sensitivity.
3、 Camera speedometer
Camera speedometer is a highway speedometer that uses image recognition technology to detect the speed of vehicles. It uses cameras to capture vehicles and determines the speed of the vehicle based on the time of entry and exit and the size of the vehicle image. It has the advantages of accurate detection and easy maintenance. However, it should be noted that compared to other speed measuring instruments, camera speedometers have higher requirements for lighting conditions, weather, and other environmental factors, and their service life is shorter.
In summary, there are three main types of highway speedometers: laser speedometers, radar speedometers, and camera speedometers. Each type of speed measuring instrument has its own advantages and disadvantages, and suitable speed measuring instruments should be selected according to different situations.
